Community Gardens
Help provide fresh and healthy fruits and veggies to our food pantry while beautifying Cedar Rapids. Learn more about Olivet Neighborhood Mission’s Community Gardens, a source of sustainable nourishment where you can donate your time and talent ― no green thumb required.
Benefits of the Community Gardens
In addition to providing a place to grow delicious fresh options for our food pantry, our Community Gardens serve as an outdoor classroom where children and families in Cedar Rapids learn to grow their own food and respect our natural environment.
About the Gardens
There are 46 garden plots on our property, including:
- 25 garden plots maintained by volunteer gardeners who grow seasonal produce for community members who need food assistance
- 21 plots available for families to plant and maintain
Built By Locals to Feed Locals
The original gardens were built by kids from the former Linn County Youth Shelter through a partnership with Olivet Neighborhood Mission. Our second set of gardens were built by a boy scout for his Eagle Scout service project.
